7/8 English: Write at least five sentences using the who, what, when, where, why, and how questions to narrow down your topic on your mission to change the world paper.
Example: Topic - I want to help the homeless.
Where do I want to help the homeless? Those in Lake Count
How will I help them? Locate all the homeless shelters, food pantries, and other services that help meet the needs of homeless in the area. Look into serving at a homeless shelter in the area or possibly building a shelter or providing transportation for those who can’t get to the shelters.
Who is helping the homeless in Lake County right now? Harvest Bible Chapel Lake Zurich has a food pantry that ministers to the needy.
How many homeless or working poor are in a Lake County now? I don’t know. I will need to get information - possibly from the Census Bureau.
When will I help the homeless? I hope to start serving immediately in some capacity around the area, and if there are no shelters I will put together a time line to raise money and awareness for the need of a homeless shelter.
My New Statement: I will help the homeless of Lake County by serving in ministries for the homeless and raising the awareness that there are homeless in the area, and I will start plans for building a homeless shelter in the area if none exists.
After you have narrowed it down using the questions, write up a new concise mission statement. This will eventually become the theme or key idea for your publication.
Remember: You are only doing one publication this quarter. I will be giving you the time line for your drafts soon.
