NOTE: Raising the bar on Reading Journals - 2/4

5/8 Reading Journal:  Journals with words spelled incorrectly will not be accepted.  If a journal is turned in a second time with three or more words spelled wrong it will receive a zero.

The same rule will apply to complete sentences, capitalization and end marks.

    Chapel Questions for 3/6/08

    1. Who was our guest speaker?

    A: Pastor Reed

    2. What book of the Bible did he talk to us about?

    A: James

    3. What spiritual fruit did he cover?

    A: Gentleness

    4. The speaker told a story about becoming a dad. The doctor brought his daughter out in a what?

    A: A laundry bag

    5. What was the main point of his story about his new-born baby?

    A: Answers may vary — to illustrate the fruit gentleness — gentleness is like a new-born baby

    6. He realized two things when he saw his baby.

    A: 1) she was very fragile and needed to be handled gently
    2) she was his. He was responsible to take great care of her

    7. The pastor told another story using an object. What was the object?

    A: a clay pot

    8. These objects in the days of Jesus were made by _____________.

    A: hand

    9. The maker would hold up the object to the sun for what reason?

    A: To look for impurities and hair-line cracks

    10. What is one thing the maker could do if he found something wrong with what he had made.

    A: If he found a crack he could throw it away — pile of broken pots called shards

    11. What is the other thing the maker could do?

    A: He could cover up the crack with wax and try and sell it to unsuspecting buyers

    12. A wise buyer of this object would do what?

    A: hold it up to the sun to see if there are any cracks

    13. If the buyer found something wrong with the object he would say the object was what?

    A: Not a sincere pot — it was cracked and the potter had tried to cover up the mistake

    14. We learn from the speaker that we can show God’s grace in two ways from the two stories he told us. What are those two ways?

    A: Answers will vary — 1) We can be sincere (without wax) not covering over our sins and imperfections and 2) we can be gentle to those we have hurt and try to heal it and make it right

    Also we can come to broken situations (like the broken pots) and pick the pieces up and heal them and use them.
    We can hold broken and hurt people like we would hold a fragile new born baby. If we treat people sincerely (without wax) and gently we can help heal their brokenness.
