MONDAY: Reading log 10/27-11/2 due on Monday - 11/3. We will finish looking at your “strengths” before we do free reading.
TUESDAY: Read Chapters 14-19 in “Red Badge,” and do your assigned Literary Circle Job –Due — 11/4. Don’t forget your newly assigned Lit Circle Jobs are on my website.
WEDNESDAY: Read “Luke Baldwin’s Vow” starting on page 69 in your Textbooks, and be prepared to talk about internal and external conflict. Read and be prepared for a quiz and a discussion of the story by 11/5.
THURSDAY: All day Mission conference – Think about how we can end hunger!
FRIDAY: Share time! Bring in your stories that are of great concern to you: economy, relationships, friendships, politics, beliefs, etc.

WEDNESDAY: Read “The Warden” starting on page 90 in your Textbooks, and be prepared to talk about internal and external conflict. Read and be prepared for a quiz and a discussion of the story by 11/5.

TUESDAY: Read “Red Badge of Courage.” Chapters 9-13 and do your assigned Literary Circle Job. Due 10/28. Don’t forget your newly assigned Lit Circle Jobs.

WEDNESDAY: Read “A Mother in Mannville” in your Lit Books starting on page 62, and please be familiar with the questions at the end of the story. Be prepared to talk about first-person narration and how that can impact the story you have read. Be prepared discuss and take a quiz over the story 10/29.

TUESDAY: First Period 7th Lit Read “View From Saturday” Chapters 5-End, that is up to page 160, and Second Period 7th Lit read “Tangerine” up to page 198, that is Part 3, and both do your assigned Literary Circle Job –Due — 10/28. Don’t forget your newly assigned Lit Circle Jobs.

WEDNESDAY: Read “No-Talent Kid” starting on page 76 in your Textbooks, and be prepared to talk about Dialogue as a key to character. Know what direct characterization is and also what interior monologue is as related to developing character. Be prepared to talk about your strengths, gifts and talents. Read and be prepared for a quiz and a discussion of the story by October 29.

TUESDAY: First Period 7th Lit Read “View From Saturday” Chapters 3-4, that is up to page 118, and Second Period 7th Lit read “Tangerine” up to page 133, and both do your assigned Literary Circle Job –Due — 10/21. Because so many didn’t have their job ready this Tuesday everyone will keep the same job. Please do not neglect to do these Lit jobs as it hinders the class discussion.

WEDNESDAY: Read “Charles” starting on page 69 in your Textbooks, and be prepared to talk about dynamic characters. Know the difference between static and fixed character and the difference between a round or flat character. Be ready to discuss how authors use both direct and indirect characterization to develop characters in their stories. Read and be prepared for a quiz and a discussion by October 22.

THURSDAY: Bring in your favorite children stories. We are going to look at two reasons why you like them so much.

Be prepared to talk about fictional characters you know of and how the author brought these characters alive to you. e.g. Horton the Elephant is developed by Seuss both with the actions he does and the dialogue he has with those around him. We will be delving into character development this Wed. 10/22/08.
