IV. Projects are assigned on Monday and the class will shoot for four days and turn in the project on Friday or Monday. All projects are shot in black and white until otherwise noted.
Project # 1- F STOP (Setting/reading the exposure, changing the f stop to change the depth of field.)
Project # 2- Freezing/showing time (By manipulating shutter speed)
Project # 3- Different types of light (In direct sunlight, in shadow, half in, half out, interior lights, florescent lights, etc…)
Project # 4- Landscape and composition (centered, off center, rule of thirds, balance, etc)
Project # 5- Still lifes (Three point studio lighting, key, fill, and rim lights, using composition to create interesting images)
Project # 6- Portraits (Done with studio lights, they photograph each other- I allowed color for this project but asked for both color and black and white)
Project # 7- Self portraits (They took a self portrait during the studio set up of the last project- other categories are: In a reflective surface, narrative, not being yourself, at arms length, moving, and they were able to choose color or black and white for this project)
Project # 8- Abstract/geometric shapes (Mainly using MACRO, they are to shoot for shapes, NOT recognizable objects)
Project # 9- The Emma Patchak Game (From Macro to Landscape, a series of five shots of the same subject from different distances, focusing on making each image a well composed image of its own)
Project # 10- Andy Goldsworthy (In the style of Goldsworthy, the students make environmental art
and photograph it. Color is a wise choice for this project)
Project # 11- Frames (using paper frames, and other framing devices, the students create a picture in picture by isolating something in the composition with a frame)
Project # 12- The Final Portfolio (While the previous have been slide shows of ten pictures, this will be a folder of their ten best photos to be printed for their portfolio)
Grading breakdown:
Tests 40% Quizzes 20% HW 40%
Late homework will result in a 10% reduction of the earned grade each day up to three days, at which point the student will receive a zero.
Discipline: I will follow the handbook guidelines.
